About Indian Open School

Indian Open School, based on the principles of Open and Distance Learning (ODL), is a flexible educational system that allows learners to study at their own pace without attending daily classes. It is specially designed for learners who face personal, financial, or geographical constraints but still wish to complete their formal education.

Certificates from recognised open schools are equivalent to those from regular boards and are accepted by universities and employers across India. Open schooling offers courses at the Secondary (Class 10) and Senior Secondary (Class 12) levels, using a combination of self-study materials, digital resources, and Personal Contact Programmes (PCPs).

Key Features of Indian Open Schooling

  • Flexibility: Students can set their own schedules and learn at their own pace, choosing subjects and examination timings that suit their situation.
  • Accessibility: Provides educational opportunities to those who cannot attend traditional schools, such as working adults, homemakers, learners in remote areas, sportspersons, artists and others with demanding schedules.
  • No Age Limit: Unlike conventional schools, open schools generally have no upper age restriction for admission, making lifelong learning possible.
  • Course Structure: Courses are offered at Secondary (Class 10) and Senior Secondary (Class 12) levels, equivalent to other recognised boards.
  • Learning Methods: Learning is mostly self-paced, supported by printed study materials, digital content, tutor support and scheduled Personal Contact Programmes.
  • Valid Certification: Certificates earned from recognised open schools are valid for higher education, competitive examinations and employment.

Benefits of Indian Open Schooling

  • Convenience: Study from home or any location, at times that are convenient for the learner.
  • Second Chance: Offers an excellent opportunity for school drop-outs and those who could not complete schooling to finish their Secondary or Senior Secondary education.
  • Equivalency: Qualifications are treated as equivalent to those from traditional boards, enabling learners to pursue further studies and careers without disadvantage.
